Jumada al-Thani

جُمَادَىٰ ٱلثَّانِيَة

Sixth month of the Islamic year.

Rajab

Jumada al-Thani is the sixth month of the Hijri calendar, marking the midpoint of the Islamic year. This month saw the passing of several illustrious Companions and scholars, including the first Caliph Hadrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (Radiyallahu Anhu) on the 22nd. It is a month to reflect on the sacrifices of the early Muslims and to strengthen one's connection with the teachings of Islam.

Passing of Hadrat Sultan Bahu (Rahimahullah) رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ

The renowned saint Hadrat Sultan Bahu (Rahimahullah) رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ passed away.

Passing of Hadrat Muhammad bin Qasim (Rahimahullah) رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ

The passing of the young Muslim general Hadrat Muhammad bin Qasim (Rahimahullah) رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ al-Thaqafi, who at just 17 years of age led the conquest of Sindh and brought Islam to the Indian subcontinent. His campaign in 93 AH opened the door for the eventual spread of Islam throughout South Asia. Despite his remarkable achievements, he was recalled and tragically died at a young age.

Conquest of North Africa (Ifriqiya)

The Muslim forces under Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh expanded into North Africa (modern Tunisia and Libya), defeating the Byzantine forces. This campaign, continued by Uqba ibn Nafi who founded the city of Qayrawan, opened all of North Africa to Islam and eventually led to the spread of Islam across the Sahara into West Africa and across the Strait into Spain.

The great Maliki scholar, jurist, and hadith master Hadrat Qadi Iyad (Rahimahullah) رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ ibn Musa al-Yahsubi passed away. He is best known for authoring Ash-Shifa bi Ta'rif Huquq al-Mustafa, a masterwork on the rights and qualities of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Battle of the Camel (al-Jamal)

The Battle of the Camel took place near Basra between the forces of Sayyiduna Hadrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (Radiyallahu Anhu) رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ and those led by Sayyidah Aisha, Sayyiduna Talha, and Sayyiduna Zubayr, over the question of bringing Sayyiduna Uthman's assassins to justice. The battle ended with the victory of Sayyiduna Ali's forces. All parties involved were Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and Muslims are instructed to remain silent about their disputes and not take sides.

Birth of Hadrat Fatimah al-Zahra (Radiyallahu Anha) رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهَا

The birth of Sayyidah Hadrat Fatimah al-Zahra (Radiyallahu Anha) رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهَا, the beloved daughter of the Prophet Hadrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) ﷺ and Sayyidah Khadijah al-Kubra. She is the mother of Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn, and thus the ancestress of all the Sadat (descendants of the Prophet). The Prophet said: 'Fatimah is a part of me; whoever angers her has angered me.' (Sahih al-Bukhari).

Caliphate of Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (Radiyallahu Anhu) رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ Begins

Sayyiduna Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (Radiyallahu Anhu) رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ became the second Caliph of Islam after being nominated by Abu Bakr on his deathbed. His decade-long caliphate saw the greatest territorial expansion in Islamic history — conquering the Persian and half the Byzantine empires. He established the Islamic calendar (Hijri), the Bayt al-Mal (Treasury), and a system of governance admired for its justice and accountability.
