Safar

صَفَر

Second month of the Islamic year.

Rabi al-Awwal

Safar is the second month of the Hijri calendar. In the pre-Islamic era, Arabs considered this month unlucky, but Islam abolished all such superstitions. The Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said there is no ill omen in Safar. Many scholars and righteous servants of Allah passed away in this month. The last Wednesday of Safar is observed by some as a day of thanksgiving, marking the recovery of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) from illness.
